Plastic Part Design & Engineering
When designing a plastic part, you are faced with many constraints: time-to-market pressure, budget limits, material selection, “mold ability”, tooling expense, minimal engineering changes and tool qualification time. With all of this on your plate, we urge you to collaborate with a competent plastic injection molding supplier very early in the development cycle.
Part Design Process
When you submit your initial part concept to Suhcc, you are working with highly experienced part and tooling designers who know how to save time and money in the development process while delivering quality results that meet your requirements.
Our engineering team will assist you with design and development using the latest solid modeling tools. We can view and work with your print or 3D CAD file in a variety of formats.
Your file is carefully reviewed, taking into account factors such as proper draft, wall thickness uniformity, shrinkage, cosmetic challenges, and dimensional stability to determine if the part can be economically molded in the material originally specified.
If not, our experts are able to suggest changes to the design and/or material that will improve the manufacturability, cosmetic appearance and ultimate performance of the part.
Working with our customers is a given, as our goal is to help them design a part or product that meets their specifications and is manufacturable. The Suhcc team provides this type of formability or manufacturability (DFM) analysis so our customers can focus on other critical phases of bringing their products to market with peace of mind.
Design for Manufacturability Analysis (DFM)
Design for Manufacturability (DFM), or more specifically, the analysis of a part design for its suitability for injection molding, is performed to achieve the following:
Suhcc performs a manufacturability analysis on every injection molding project. After receiving a quote request and a corresponding 3D design file, we perform an initial analysis to ensure that the requested component is suitable for injection molding. Our goal is to produce the component as close as possible to the original design intent. However, in some cases, modifications are required to meet the basic requirements of good injection molding practice. In these cases, we discuss with the customer suggested improvements to the design or actions we may need to take in the production process prior to initiating the mold production process. This provides cost savings to our customers by minimizing the cost of tooling and design changes up front and shortens the overall project duration.
Mold Design
Our design and engineering experience encompasses many thousands of injection molded components, and we would welcome the opportunity to bring this knowledge & expertise to your next project.
We provide engineering guidance to help you design moldable parts that are optimized for manufacture. From tool design concepts to process development and validation, we ensure that all aspects of production meet the ultimate goal of producing high-quality injection molded parts.
